Readers Books and Conversations with Lev Grossman

Lev Grossman is a brilliant writer of fantasy novels (and essays and other novels too). He’s the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Magicians trilogy which has been published in thirty countries and was adapted as a TV show that ran for 5 seasons on Netflix/ Syfy.

His latest novel, The Bright Sword, is an epic retelling of the story of King Arthur except it’s set just after Arthur has died and the legend of Camelot has shattered. The story is told from the perspective of the Knights of the Round Table who are left – the outcasts, the misfits. The Bright Sword is the most wonderful novel. Compelling, hilarious, magical, utterly engrossing. Every sentence shimmers. It was a highlight to have Lev as a guest at Readers. We spoke about The Bright Sword and also about his writing craft, the power of revision, writing about magic, fathers and sons, about why genre fiction is still considered less worthy than literary fiction and his thoughts on reading for pleasure.
