Readers: Books and Conversations with Anthony Sharwood

anthony sharwood and michaela kalowski

We were thrilled to host Sydney author of non-fiction Anthony Sharwood at the PBC to tell us about Polish Freedom fighter, Military engineer, hero of the American War of Independence and a man who fought for the freedom of workers in his native Poland, Tadeusz Kosciuszko.

We spoke about the experiences that shaped Kozciuszko’s humanist outlook, about how he ended up mates with George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and fought and helped to plan key battles in the American Revolutionary War and how his name came to be on so many plaques, towns, statues and Mountains.

We also delved into why Australia ended up naming our tallest Mountain after him (when he never set foot in Australia) and whether his name should be removed from that Mountain. Anthony says whatever we decide, Kosciuszko is the hero the world needs right now.
