Kathryn Heyman at Gertrude & Alice

‘Circle of Wonders’ is Kathryn Heyman’s 7th novel. In it we meet Roni Blume who is nearing the end of her life. She’s wondering if she can die a good death when she hasn’t always lived such a good life. She’s yearning for forgiveness, for an end to her life that will bring her peace, and she’s hoping that all of her female friends and family will rally around her. Kathryn speaks powerfully about the ideas that she wanted to explore in this novel; about mothers and daughters, endings and beginnings, female friendship, intergenerational confusions and trauma, and what it means to be alive and pay attention during your own life. It was wonderful to join Kathryn at Gertrude & Alice Bookstore and Café for this event.
